!We Do it BIGGER and BETTER every Year!

It’s that time of year again!  The holidays are over and everyone is itching to break out that new gear.  After all of the back to back boat shows and the Mardi Gras season, it will be time for the south’s largest wake fest, Louisiana Spring Fling 08. LSF is a four day event in the heart of the south’s swampland that brings all of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi’s best together for one big party.  When the founders of Spring Fling got together and created this event I don’t think they had it in their minds that it would last this long or turn in to the fun packed event it has become and this year’s event promises to be the biggest and craziest ever. LSF is running ten years strong and we don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

LSF 08 will have a something for everyone to enjoy.  LSF kicks off on Thursday May 8th with Vendor set up and an all day free-ride. Friday the 9th is normally when everyone starts to roll in from out of town.  The day will be filled with riding and some of the best Cajun food from the many local restaurants in the area.  There will also be vendor viewing all day from some of the state’s top wakeboard gurus, and the ever famous video premier that night at the McGee’s Landing Bar and Restaurant.  Following the video we’ll throw down with one of the south’s hottest DJ’s from our boys over at TUNZ music for one slamming after party and bonfire. Saturday will start early with breakfast being cooked by the good ole Cajun cooks at McGee’s Landing.  The vendor areas will open around 9:00 a.m. for everyone to check out the latest boats and gear for the 2008 season and great deals on all the left over ‘07 gear.  Of coarse we will enjoy riding all day and like normal everyone tying their boats up for the all day party.  That after noon will be the ever famous hottest ladies of LSF bikini contest with a $250 prize and gear. Also new to LSF this year will be the LSF freeride contest which will cater to all riding ability’s, instead of the same guys who always compete. We’re going to have a four round event contest that will test riders to throw their largest (1) Invert, (2) Spin, (3) Full ride set and (4) biggest tweaked out trick.  Saturday night is when the biggest and baddest riders throw it all down for the title of Rail King of LSF ‘08 and the $1,000 prize. Following the Rail Jam in Downtown Lafayette we will roll over the hottest Rail Jam after party this summer at Shakers Club Downtown.  If you came to Louisiana Rail Fest 2007 and made it to the after party then you definitely don’t want to miss this one. Sunday will be the last day of LSF ’08.  Vendors will open the booths again around 9:00 a.m. for everyone and breakfast will be served until 10:00 a.m. at McGee’s Landing.  Sunday will be a relaxed day with Cajun bands on the LSF band stand.  After lunch when everyone recovers from Saturday night were going to start the LSF ‘08 Wake King Double-Up Contest.  This year’s riders will be battling it out against some of the top riders for bragging rights as the King of Wake and a hand full of cold hard cash.  LSF ‘08 is ten years strong and we plan on making this the best ever so remember to get your crew together and make you plans to be in the swamp for Louisiana Spring Fling 2008.

The Ouachita River

Many have heard of it, several have ridden it, but few really know it. It is the Ouachita River. The Ouachita River winds from Western Arkansas to central Louisiana. Along it’s path are miles upon miles of navigable water.

The Ouachita River is one of Louisiana’s hidden assets. It’s one of the few rivers which has been deemed a scenic waterway. Along it’s banks you can find nearly all types of terrain, from the mountains of Arkansas to the swamps of Louisiana. However, for this article, I’m concentrating on describing the Ouachita that I know; the Ouachita that is quite possibly wakeboarding paradise.

I’ve spent most of my 34 years navigating the Ouachita. I’ve boated, at one time or  another, from the Louisiana/Arkansas line to several miles south of Columbia, LA (over 100miles of river). No river can possibly be more condusive to wakeboarding or just having fun in general.

Boat launches abound along the Ouachita River. From my home near Monroe, LA, I can drive to as many as eight different boat launches within about 30 minutes drive time. Also, with depths reaching as deep as 70feet in some places during is lowest stage, navigation for wakeboard boats is rarely a problem.

The Ouachita River is laden with sandbars. In some areas of the river, such as near Columbia, LA, sandbars are located on nearly every bend of the river. These sandbars are often areas of socialization. Only a few are considered off limits to the general public. Most are free reign for whoever wants to to chill for a while between sets.

Pictures are “borrowed” from the Ouachita River Foundation, www.ouachitariver.org , thank you Glenn Gore.
